PHYS 101 (3) Energy and Waves Fluids, harmonic oscillator, travelling waves, standing waves, sound, and interference of light waves, including diffraction. ![]() Principles of Mathematics 12 or Pre-calculus 12 is required Physics 11 is required for first-year students, strongly recommended for others. ![]() Prerequisite: Not open to students with credit for PHYS 12. Students with credit for Physics 12 may not obtain credit for this course unless they took AP, IB, or A-level Physics and were offered advanced credit for PHYS 100. PHYS 100 (3) Introductory Physics Kinematics, force, energy, momentum, use of graphs and vectors in physics thermal energy, heat transfer, Earth's energy balance electricity. Students should consult the Faculty of Science Credit Exclusion List. Many other PHYS courses are credit-excluded with each other, or with courses in other departments. Credit will be given for only one of PHYS 117, PHYS 106, PHYS 107 and for only one of PHYS 102, PHYS 108, PHYS 118. Science One is considered to include two terms of physics. Most Science degree specializations require at least one or two terms of physics beyond Physics 12 or PHYS 100. ![]() Credit will not be given for PHYS 100 to students with credit for Physics 12 unless they took AP, IB, or A-level Physics and were offered advanced credit for PHYS 100. PHYS 100 is intended primarily for students who have completed only Physics 11 or its equivalent. Science students with BC Secondary School Physics 11, but not Physics 12, are required to take PHYS 100. While warp field mechanics has not had a " Chicago Pile " moment, the tools necessary to detect a modest instance of the phenomenon are near at hand.Homepage Course Descriptions Physics and Astronomy, Faculty of Science PHYS: Physics Finally, an overview of the warp field interferometer test bed being implemented in the Advanced Propulsion Physics Laboratory: Eagleworks (APPL:E) at the Johnson Space Center will be detailed. The net effect of using a warp drive " technology " coupled with conventional propulsion systems on an exploration mission will be discussed using the nomenclature of early mission planning. The idea of a warp drive in higher dimensional space-time (manifold) will then be briefly considered by comparing the null-like geodesics of the Alcubierre metric to the Chung-Freese metric to illustrate the mathematical role of hyperspace coordinates. A modified concept of operations based on the canonical form of the metric that remedies the paradox is presented and discussed. The canonical form of the metric was developed and published in which provided key insight into the field potential and boost for the field which remedied a critical paradox in the original Alcubierre concept of operations. This paper will begin with a short review of the Alcubierre warp drive metric and describes how the phenomenon might work based on the original paper. ![]()
